Fiction as a window on the world

CAPA Drama

Fiction films are an efficient means of capturing the reality of an epoch, often, to raise awareness, sometimes, to disturb, always, to get a message across.

CAPA Drama collaborates with the best screen writers, actors and directors, shooting both in France and abroad, to tell the story of ordinary heroes who make history.

While Caplan is feeling trigger happy, his gun pointed at Vogel to save Roxanne, hell rains down on Walter’s children.

Even though this attack by the Turks (orchestrated by their leader “Baba” Aroudj) has not harmed the children physically, this violation of his home has awakened a violent desire for revenge in Walter. Behind Caplan’s back, Walter conducts his vendetta against the Turks, with the support (or so he hopes) of Charlie (the mysterious friend who helped Caplan in his investigation of the Russian Mafia).

But tipped off by Charlie, Caplan intervenes and with his help and that of Wassim Alcala (a former army buddy of Walter’s), they fight a relentless battle against the Turks so as to strip “Baba” Aroudj of his parliamentary immunity and enable his arrest. But when you launch a vendetta you have to watch out for the collateral damage and, worst of all, the backfire can often wipe out whoever lit the match.

From Paris to Marseille, Caplan and his team have no choice but to let all hell break loose for the sake (at last?) of justice.

Louis XIV is 28 years old. To bring the nobility under his thumb and impose once and for all his absolute power, he undertakes the construction of the Versailles palace. Like the laying of a trap. Louis XIV is a young king haunted by a childhood trauma, “La Fronde”, a revolt of the nobility against his father, Louis XIII…

Peerless political strategist, manipulator, Machiavellian, he would “invent” Versailles to distance the Nobles from Paris, keep them under his control, and gradually turn Versailles into a gilded cage. Yet he is also a man of passionate romances. But how, as the world’s greatest king, can he live them to the full?

Season one sees the young king mature into the Sun King, the king of kings. By way of historical and fictional characters, from the latest courtesan in favour to the humblest village peasant, we are guided through a world of betrayals and court secrets, political manoeuvres and declarations of war, revealing Versailles in all its glory and brutality.
